Engine
- My
VVC powered F/TF sounds like a diesel when I first start it up.
- To a certain
extent this is fairly normal. Excessive noise (what's excessive ??)
however can indicate the need for an oil change. Its important not to
rev the engine when its cold as it takes a while for the oil to get up
to the camshafts.
- How
does the K series VVC mechanism work?
- What
does a Daytona exhaust sound like?, and a Miltek, Bastuck, Janspeed.....
- I
have seen these 25BHP chips on Ebay, do they work?
- NO they do not
work, its a scam, and they could potentially damage your engine. They
make they engine think its getting colder air than it actually is
getting, not good.
- Have a look at this
page from Rob Bell's website
about other dodgy claims, like the 'Electric Supercharger', and the
'bolt on Oil Cooler'
- What
is the difference between MG's VVC and Honda's VTECH/Toyota's
VVT-I engines?
- A thread on MG-Rover.org's
forum discussed this, with input from Andy Phillips, Mike Satur and Rob
Bell, its full of informed thoughts.
- Where
are the maximum and minimum coolant level marks?
- Its not that
obvious where these marks are on the expansion tank, so DotComoff shows
you graphically
here.
- My
tick over has become erratic, is there anything I can do?
- It may be worth
while resetting the stepper motor, here are the instructions -
1) Start the engine and warm up to a normal working temperature.
2) Turn off the ignition.
3) Turn on ignition to stage II (with
electric window available but don't start the engine).
4) Press the accelerator all the way
down and fully release five times repeatedly.
5) Wait for at least 15 seconds and then
turn off the ignition.
- Starting
problems
- Have a look at
look at this
page from Tony Thompson's web
site
- There
is black smoke coming from my exhaust, what does it mean?
- A
have a loud ticking noise coming from my engine, what could it be?
- It could be air in
the hydraulic tappets after the engine has stood for a long period, a
nice long drive should cure it.
- if it can only be
heard when the engine is cold, you probably have a VVC engine, an oil
change may quieten the tapping.
- In Iain 'Broon'
Brown's case, it was a manifold nut that was loose !!!. This is Iain's original
thread, the cure is here
on MG-Rover.org and here
on the MGF Register forum.
- Sensors
and other useful part locations
- CJJ created this
great thread on the MG-Rover.org
forum showing the locations of sensors and other parts that owners
often ask for.

appropriate picture. Thanks also to 1955diesel for his input.
